Because there are no seasons in Micronesia; it's summer all year round. Temperatures range from 75F to 90F (24C to 32C)

The last quarter of the year has the least visitors but some of the best weather.

Because tides are higher and there is less wind, kayaking through Nan Madol and the mangrove channels is easier in the last quarter.

A dive certification is required.

The trade winds begin in early December and continue until May.

The tropical sun is very harsh on skin. This is especially true because Pohnpei is very near the equator. An SPF 15, or higher, is recommended.

The currency in Micronesia the US dollar. There is only one ATM machine on island. Credit cards are accepted at the Village.

Rental cars are about $45-$50 US per day, insurance extra. Taxi fare to Kolonia is about $3.00 one way per person.

Reef walkers or old tennis shoes are good for Nan Madol and waterfall trips, or for hiking in the jungle.

A Mac computer and Wi-Fi are both available. Telephone and fax services are at the front desk. ATT, MCI, Sprint, and GTE cards are accepted. The only cell phones that work on the island are the GSM-900. Rental cell phones are available at FSM TeleCom.

There is a small gift shop behind the front desk that sells t-shirts, medicines and handmade jewelry.

Carry-on luggage should contain what you'll need if your bags are misplaced.

Although Pohnpeian is the local language, English is understood and spoken by almost everyone.

Laundry brought to the front desk in the morning, will be washed, folded, and on your bed in the afternoon.

Electricity is 120 volts, 60 herz. Cameras, lights and razors can be charged in the room.

Pohnpei is very safe. There are no boogeymen and NO snakes.

Although tipping is not expected, if the service is excellent, it's very welcome.

Except that US citizens do not require a visa, a passport, valid for 120 days, a visa and an on-going ticket are required for eveyone. Customs officials will inspect your luggage.
